Out on the town

I have a host brother here. His name is Tomás. Having been a host brother for the last few years, he's pretty awesome...and he saved our butts a couple weekends ago.

So Katelyn and I went out Thursday night with the intention of going to a Salsa dance lesson (bust...guy wasn't teaching us how to actually dance, he was teaching a dance that he had all choreographed). Needless to say, we ended up at Euro shot night (one shot of tequila for one Euro...unfortunately, so had like 50% of our program. We didn't really have any desire to hang out with a good chunk of the folks, especially since they were acting like drunk obnoxious Americans (not all, but enough), so we called Tomás to come save us!

After we did two tequila shots each, of course.

Tomás came and saved us at Sol, where we were being followed by a drunk homeless guy that wanted to practice his English or something. We weren't 100% sure. But he did drop his beer on Katelyn's shoes. Uncool.

So Tomás took us to a gay bar called "Escape" (pronounced the Dory way from Finding Nemo...I liked that) and we danced the night awaaaaay.

Tomás and I were debating whether or not this guy was gay, so he decided to just go up and ask the guy. The guy wasn't gay, and was digging on Katelyn. Lol.

She was a little embarrassed.

Later that weekend, Katelyn and I went on an adventure to Parque del Oeste!

First we stopped at Plaza Mayor:

Then we walked past Palacio Real:

Senate building, I believe?

Templo de Debod, an Egyptian temple that was brought to the park

Palacio Real from far away

Casa del Campo

Rose garden

We went on a Gondola Ride!!!!

The amusement park in Casa del Campo

We got to the other side...not much there...so we went back:

Then we went for a walk after the gondola ride:

Plaza de Espana:

Gran Via:

YAAAAAY!!!

Then on MONDAY, we were hanging out at home after a siesta...Tomás had been over for lunch, and decided we needed to get out of the house and go with him on some errands. He ended up taking us to an AMAZING chocolate shop (expect presents from this place, padres & Nick), and then the three of us and our other roommate Marit went out to Thai food, which was a lot of fun and super yummy.

MANGO VERDE SALAD = SUPER YUMMY!!!!!!

Pad Thai, Curry, and Shrimp Fried Rice...not like American Thai food, but similar enough to curb some cravings. :-) Next weekend, it's mexican food.

  2. No, there's so many mexicans here...I mean, the potential to be bad is there, but I HAVE HOPE!
Plus, an Argentinian recommended it. He's from pretty close to Mexico, I guess.
